A bright red piece of Chicago history sits nestled
under a giant oak on its original 1859 grade-line, six feet below
the quiet tree-lined avenue leading to its front door. This three-bedroom
home retains an exterior charm in keeping with its pre-Chicago Fire
build date while still providing modern comforts to its guests by
way of an extensive interior renovation completed in 2006, including
a fully outfitted kitchen with all new appliances. Each of the three
bedrooms possesses its own unique aesthetic but none deviates from
the country style with a subtle French flair that pervades the entire
house. All in all, this Lincoln Park guest house exudes warmth that
may only be exceeded by the greeting guests are likely to receive
upon their arrival from its owner/operator, Heather Berman.
Ideally situated just north of the intersection
of Clybourn St. and Sheffield Ave., easy access to the rest of the
city is just one block away at the Armitage stop of Chicago’s
famous “El” train. However, so many sights and activities
exist within walking distance of Maud House that one may never take
a trip on the train. Shopping, from the many retailers of the Clybourn
corridor to the eclectic boutiques and shops on Armitage, is abundant.
The area also boasts a multitude of great eateries ranging from
locally loved diners such as Mitchell’s and Nookies to the
nationally renown Charlie Trotter’s, a gourmet restaurant
consistently ranked as one of the top three in the United States
year after year. If the decision is to eat in, take advantage of
the brand new Maud House kitchen and buy your ingredients at Whole
Food’s Market or Trader Joe’s, both just a stone’s
throw away. Lincoln Park also offers a diversity of entertainment
options with mainstream films at Webster Place and art films at
Pipers Alley, great plays with well known actors at Steppenwolf
Theater, and, for everyone, the Lincoln Park Zoo located at the
east end of the neighborhood just off the shores of Lake Michigan.
